The Passing of a Legend

Sad news: Russ Choka, the long-time owner of my hometown stand Fort Wayne’s Famous Coney Island, has passed.  Seems like he was doing what he loved up until, however, and the good news is that his family will be running the stand as it has been for the past 98 years so the tradition will live on.    Tributes from his employees were many, serving to show how much he’ll be missed.  He was 88 when he died, so it’s amazing to think that the stand was just 10 years old when he was born, and he had been running the stand for about 50 years–truly a tradition just not for Fort Wayne but America as well.
