Crazy Legs Conti, A Man with a Dream

February 22, 2009

I recently watched a movie called “Crazy Legs Conti: Zen and the Art of Competitive Eating.”  This doc is about this guy Crazy Legs, who was a huge fan of the annual Nathan’s July 4th contest and a natural-born super eater.  It tracks how he started as a fan, went on to beat the record competitive oyster eating in New Orleans, becoming a member of the IFOCE (International Federation of Competitive Eating), competing in regional hot dog events, to eventually join the big stage in Coney Island.  I had fun watching this movie, and learned more about the world of competitive eating.  Check out www.ifoce.com for information and records.  Crazy Legs is currently ranked 14 out of 50.  His current IFOCE records are:

  • 5 1/2 lbs of buffet food in 12 minutes
  • 2.71 lbs of french cut green beans in 6 minutes
  • 3 1/2 lbs of pancakes and bacon in 12 minutes
  • 34.75 ears of sweet corn in 12 minutes (4/29/07)

Here’s the poster from the movie, which I got from www.crazylegsconti.com
